Learn about EA for Colleges + Universities

EcoApprentice is a practical and educational way to help students build their resumes and gain career-based education.Professors and Instructors will find EcoChallenges an excellent source for class projects, assignments, thesis reports, or potential internships.

How does it work? A business, seeking an environmentally friendly solution to some aspect of its operations, posts an EcoChallenge. Students respond with real-world EcoSolutions. When the business and students agree that the EcoChallenge is solved, the winning EcoSolution is posted, giving well-deserved credit to the students and their academic institution.

  • EcoApprentice is flexible. While we encourage students to collaborate with businesses in their local communities, many relationships occur entirely online. Your college, university, or trade-school can be an active participant no matter where you’re located. High Schools/Middle Schools can participate if a teacher signs up for and represents the students in a class.
  • EcoApprentice is free for students and schools. Students must be 18 or older to become a member. We have already had students recieve class credit for projects completed through EcoApprentice.
  • EcoApprentice offers visibility. Participation demonstrates your school’s commitment to sustainable solutions for our communities and links you to an ever-growing resource which will provide practical, hands-on experience to students collaborating with businesses.

What are the Eco Icons? For any EcoChallenge, choose one or more icons that best reflects the category of sustainability that is helped by an EcoSolution. If an EcoSolution results in a new way to recycle something, choose the Recycle Icon; if an EcoSolution results in less waste production, choose the Reduce Waste Icon. A new water conservation method may represent multiple icons. You decide! If your EcoChallenge does not fall under any of the Icons, please let us know so we can create a new one!
